Bar Harbor, Maine — Bar Harbor Bank & Trust in partnership with its employees and directors donated $10,900 through the Bank's Community Commitment program during 2011. The non-profit organizations receiving these funds included: Maine Search and Rescue Dogs, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Maine, Town of Gouldsboro heating assistance fund, Keep Kids Warm program of the Bangor Breakfast Rotary, Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, Humane Society of Knox County, Rockland Recreation Department, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event in Hancock County, Meals on Wheels and Helping Hands in Deer Isle, Robert & Mary's Place, MDI Community Campfire Coalition, Eastern Area Agency on Aging's Meals on Wheels program in Washington County, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Washington-Hancock Community Agency's Thaw Fund, Ark Animal Shelter, and Island Connections.

Each week, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust directors and employees, in exchange for being able to dress casually on Fridays, voluntarily contribute to a charitable fund that disburses gifts monthly to local non-profit organizations. This employee-driven donation program is called Community Commitment. The Bank matches the employee donations, doubling the amount given to the chosen non-profit organization. Each month the employees at a different bank location get to choose the recipient of these contributions.
