02/21/2012 Lubec Volunteer Fire Department Received Bar Harbor Bank & Trust 'Community Commitment' Funds

Lubec, Maine — Each week, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust directors and employees, in exchange for being able to dress casually on Fridays, voluntarily contribute to a charitable fund that disburses gifts monthly to local non-profit organizations. This employee-driven donation program is called Community Commitment. The Bank matches the employee donations, doubling the amount given to the chosen non-profit organization. Each month a different bank location gets to choose the recipient of these contributions.
For the month of January, employees at Bar Harbor Bank &Trust’s Lubec branch chose the Lubec Volunteer Fire Department to receive the Community Commitment funds. The Fire Department was in the process of raising money to purchase two Cold Water Rescue suits. “We are so appreciative of this donation that will help secure the purchase of one of the suits. Additional funds are still needed to purchase the second suit,” said Robert Hood, Fire Chief. Although there have been no cold water rescue calls this season, last year they had three. Luckily the Coast Guard was available to help out. To make a contribution toward purchasing this important rescue equipment, checks can be made payable to the Lubec Volunteer Fire Department and mailed to 40 School Street, Lubec, Maine 04652.
