Mastercard Cardmember Benefits
A. We always strive to offer our customers the best banking experience possible. Your new Debit Mastercard will help
us to serve you better by providing you with added benefits you can use every day. Your new card will have EMV chip technology with contactless payment capabilities, allowing for more secure and more convenient transactions. You’ll also have access to Mastercard’s cardmember benefits, including liability and price protection.
A. Please call toll free 1-800-448-8268 to activate your card and select your PIN. To complete the PIN selection process you will first be prompted for the following information: last four digits of your Social Security Number
or your Tax ID Number (TIN) if you are a business, last four digits of the primary account number attached to the card, and the phone number associated with the primary account.
A. A contactless chip card is similar to the card you have today, except it has an embedded microchip and antenna built in to it for a safer and more convenient check out experience. The security in the chip makes every transaction unique, which provides stronger fraud protection. Your chip card will also have the traditional magnetic stripe on the back so that you can continue using your card at merchants who are still transitioning to new chip card terminals.
A. The embedded microchip provides stronger fraud protection as it is more difficult to replicate and the contactless tap-and-go payment feature gives you a faster way to pay at accepting merchants. Using the contactless payment feature is just as secure as using your chip to insert to pay. Chip technology is already used in other countries and now becoming popular in the U.S. Your new chip card provides enhanced security and is easier to use at international locations.
A. A chip card looks just like a traditional card with an embedded chip in addition to the standard magnetic stripe. Rather than swiping your card, you will insert your chip or tap your card to complete the transaction.
A. Every transaction with a chip card has unique data in it. Chip transactions are dynamic and different each time you use the card, which helps prevent fraudsters from being able to create counterfeit chip cards. Please note your card has both a chip and a magnetic stripe on it so that you can still use your card at terminals that don’t accept chips, but magnetic stripe transactions are static and do not offer the same security as chip transactions.
A. Use your chip card at the exact same merchants you do now by inserting the card into card terminals that are chip enabled, or swiping your card at merchant locations that have not yet switched to chip-enabled card terminals. You can also continue to use your card as you did before for online payments, telephone payments, and at ATMs.
A. No, your new card will have no annual fee, just like the card it replaces.
A. You can expect to receive your new card between September 1 and October 15, 2018 via USPS.
A. Yes. Each personal checking account with a Visa® debit card linked to it will be reissued a new Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Debit Mastercard®.
